Myndaveggur - Picture wall

Það hefur verið á "to do" listanum mínum lengi að gera myndavegg í fjölskylduherberginu okkar. Svo rakst ég á þessa mynd sem varð kveikjan að mínum myndavegg.

Þar sem það eru myndir út um allt hús af dætrum okkar tveimur þá ákváðum við að hafa annað þema og setja gamlar myndir af húsinu okkar. Húsið okkar heitir Blómvangur, var byggt árið 1926 og á sér ansi merkilega sögu þar sem það er fyrsta garðyrkjulögbýlið á Íslandi og hér voru meira að segja ræktaðir fyrstu tómatar landsins ásamt öðru grænmeti. Flestar myndirnar eru frá árunum 1930 til 1945.

Hér er svo útkoman:

Keyptum myndahillurnar í IKEA.

Hér fyrir neðan er svo merkileg mynd af Winston Churchill fyrir framan húsið okkar. En hann kom til Ísland í einn dag í ágúst 1941 til að heilsa upp á breska hermenn en kíkti í leiðinni upp í Mosfellssveit til að kynna sér það hvernig Íslendingar nýttu sér heita vatnið til upphitunar. Þessar tvær litlu flöskur og neftóbaksdósina fundum við þegar við fórum að grafa upp í garðinum þegar við tókum húsið í gegn.

Þennan litla lykil fundum við líka grafinn í jörðu hérna fyrir utan húsið. Hver veit af hverju þessi lykill gekk en fallegur er hann og ákváðum við að leyfa honum að njóta sín í þessum fína ramma.

Hérna er svo skemmtileg mynd úr stríðinu sem sýnir kanadískir hermenn á skriðdrekum fyrir utan húsið okkar :-) & merkið fékk ég í Söstrene og tímaglasið er gamalt og finnst mér það endurspegla gamla tímann í þessu myndasafni.

Þessi litli fugl fékk að fljóta með en tengdapabbi tálgaði hann.

Þannig að við erum bara ansi ánægð með myndavegginn okkar og hann er frábær viðbót við fjölskylduherbergið okkar. Okkur finnst líka frábært hvernig við getum viðhaldið sögunni á þennan máta.

For my english speaking friends: I was doing a picture wall in our family room. I decided to put old pictures of our house but it was built 1926 and has a great history. You can even see a picture of Winston Churchill in front of our house in 1941. You can also see an old key, old bottles and a tobacco can which we found in the ground outside the house. We bought the shelves in IKEA.

My fireplace

A few years ago we bought an ethanol fireplace for our livingroom. We´ve never used it much because it gets so hot inside the house ;-) So sometimes I´ve put something else in the fireplace, like candles in the winter time and once I put some big beach pebbles, shells and a boat in the fireplace.
The other day I was browsing the internet and saw this great idea from this great blog, Skreytum hús where she uses big candles and logs.

.....and I decided to do the same and sent my lumberjack out to cut some wood ;-)

So here is my "new" fireplace:

I found this wonderful website, Meet the Dubiens. American supermom, Jill, loves to make fun food for her kids and these great lunch boxes. I just wish I had the time to make something like this....and some ideas in my head !!

I stumbled on these awsome photographs on the internet and I just love them. The photographers name is Per Breihagen, born and raised in Norway and the pictures are of his daughter Anja in a traditional Norwegian clothing....dressed like an elf :-)

This is something that I would like to try....maby for the next Christmas card....or maby this could be a fun project for my next digital scrapbooking layout !!

My Christmas ornaments

I really love my Christmas ornaments. My ornaments are really special to me and I have collected every item over the years. Every Christmas I try to buy something special and uniqe and when I travel I always try to buy something that I really like from that country. When I decorate the tree I just love to open all the little boxes and look at the beautiful things that have been in the storage for 11 months.

So I just wanted to show you some of my special ornaments:-)

I have a quite a few birds on the tree and this one is a gift from my friend last year and is called Princess Diana......because my friend Diana gave it to me !

This is the newest member of the tree, a little bird I bought today ;-)

And then we have some reindeers....

We have two daughters that are adopted from China so our Christmas ornaments from our two trips to China are very special to us.

I´m very fond of our first Christmas ornaments. I bought it in Austria when we were traveling

there in 1999.

We also have two little frames that have pictures of our daughters first Christmas with us :-)

Well, I think the winter is here.....at least here in Iceland, it was pretty cold today....brrrrrr.
This is the time of year that I love.....because this is the time when all the new winter kits arrive ! I just love to scrap winter layouts and I made one today from my new winter kits, Welcome winter by Emeto designs, Snowflake dance by Jofia designs and Snowflake dance by Lily designs. Three awsome designers !!

I took my girls to a professional photographer last week and I´m soooooo happy ! The photographer María Katrín came over to our house and took the pictures in our garden and in the surroundings of our house. Very natural and artistic photos.

Our Playhouse - part 2

Last year I posted some pictures of the playhouse we were building for our daughters. If you missed it you can see it here.

Now we have almost finished it inside. Yesterday it was our younger daughters birthday and our older daughters birthday is coming up soon so we decided to make it their surprise birthday present. They were very happy and have been playing there all day long :-)

Here are some pictures of the playhouse....named Kínakot or China cottage, because our daughters are from China !

First we had to do some painting inside and we chose pink and green along with the white.

The table, bench and chairs are a birthday gift to the girls from us and their grandparents.

My husband made the little shelves and I painted them.

The IKEA kitchen was a birthday gift for the girls last year from their grandparents.

I also made the pictures in the frames in photoshop.

My husband bought these lights last year on sale but I didn´t like the picture, some tacky Barbie picture that I didn´t think fitted into the house. So I just made another picture in photoshop (matching the frames) and it lookes just perfect :-)

Of course the house needed some flowers and a postbox.

And here is the playhouse. We have still some work to do....painting the picket fence !!

Milk Carton for cookies :-)

This is my newest product, milk carton for cookies.

I used emetos Christmas story kit...I just loooove it. I also used a milk carton template by Kaye Winiecki.

Here is the template, so simple :-) Then you just cut and fold and glue......and put some cookies inside to give.

This layout is a scraplift from an older layout I did last year, Good morning, wich is a summer picture but I loved the idea so I wanted to do a new verion of it...a winter picture !

When I´m browsing the internet and the stores I love to find unique things, things you usually don´t find in the typical stores. I found this store in Florida and I just fell in love, it´s called Anthropologie. They have the most amazing Christmas ornament.

I bought this one...so cute :-)

I´ve lost my mojo again and I find it hard to sit down and scrap :-( But I managed to make one page, a page I started over again and again. Everything from Createwingsdesigns new mini kit, Little giggles.

I see on my Feedjit traffic map that I get a lot of visitors from all over the world. That always amazes me because I have no idea where they found my page and I don´t advertice my blog at all.

Our playhouse !

I thought I should show you something else this week. This summer we have been building our daughters playhouse. It started out as a little playhouse but it got a little bigger along the way ;-) We have not finished it yet but I want to show you some pictures of the playhouse from this summer. Hope you like it !!

We started the house...or digging for it on may 27th.

We started out slow and a little less than a month later we started building the actual house because the groundwork took alot of time !

It´s beginning to look like a house !

We decided to put a little sandbox in the deck that could be closed....so the neighbourhood cats would not come and use it as their personal toilet ;-)

The roof is on...but not on fire ;-)

A little picnic in the garden, my daughters and their friend !

July 11th. The playhouse has become a house....with a deck and soon to be "white picket fence"

And here comes the color....and yes, it´s red !!

And here we are almost done on the outside. Some paint work is left and we have to build a door before the winter arrives.

Isn´t it pretty ??

My husband has done all the work him self, both designing and building....with not so much help from me, except from some idea and design work.

My work is yet to come....when I get to decorate inside and fulfill all my childhood dreams :-)

I´ll just make it myself !

Still a lazy blogger but here are my newest pictures.

This one I made from Catherine´s new kit, Boys retreat. Since I have no boys I decided to do a tough girly pictures of Matthildur. I just love the Land Rover because my father has one and it reminds my of my childhood.

This picture of my hubby and daughter was taken last summer on Tenerife. The gorgeous frame is from Catherine designs, Chic frames and the rest is just mix and match.

This picture I also made from Catherine´s kit, Bisou Bisou.

This picture is soooo diffrent from my usual style but sometimes you just need to step out of your comfort zone and create something totally diffrent. I used Hollie´s new kit, Old School

My princess Jasmine

My daughter got her Jasmine costume over a year ago but just recently started to wear it. And she loves Aladdin, the movie. When I saw this new kit by Newlifedreams, Les Mille et Une Nuits / 1001 Nights I just new I had to have it...and it is gorgeous.
I´ve already made 2 LOs from that kit and I probably will do more later. I'm really happy with how they turned out....and the costume just fits perfectly with the kit :-)

Looking back to the wait I see now that it was very short, only 14 month from the decision to adopt until we had her in our arms (7 months from LID to Referral). But the wait was sooo hard because we had been waiting for so many years before the 14 months. Now we have been waiting for about 2 years for a baby sister or a baby brother !!!!!

The first ski trip

A year ago, Matthildur had her first ski trip and had a blast. Unfortunately we have not been able to go again...but hopefully soon. Catherine designs just released a new kit, Winter retreat and it is just perfect for this special moment :-) She also has a matching freebie on her blog, check it out !!

Am I the luckiest or what !!!!! Catherine (Catherine designs) contacted me and asked if I could be on her guest CT. She is such an amazing scrapper and a designer so the decision was not hard. She has been my inspiration since I started digiscrapping and her gallery was one of the first I bookmarked :-) So....yay !

My newest LO is very dear to me. It is a picture of my daughter Matthildur and her best friend Sigga Bára. Their friendship is very special and they love each other very much, only 5 days apart, both from China and came home together and have this special relationship that I wanted to capture. The text is from an Icelandic song and says: A trusted friend can make a miracle !

One of the highlight of 2008 was our trip to Tenerife, Spain last summer with our dear friends. Matthildur had a blast on the beach and here are some of the photos I took of her playing.

The Icelandic winter is probably not like most people imagine, yes it can be cold but it can also be mild. I doesn´t get as cold as many people think, when it´s -5-10 °C (23-14 F) it´s REALLY cold. But the weather is very changeble, it rains, it snows, it rains again, then a storm, snow again, sun and still weather....all in one day ;-)

Guess what happened, Dawn from Createwingsdesigns contacted me and asked if I would want to be on her creative team !!! Her designs are just awsome and I´m thrilled.

This is my first creative team. I´ve been a guest designer 3 times but I´ve never really applied to any CT calls, both because I'm a slow scrapper and I only do about 2-4 LOs a months and some CTs requirements are that you do 3-4 LOs a month.....so I would only be doing LOs with this designers stuff....not very good for you creative mind to stick to only one designer....especially if the designer style was not my style ;-)

So I´m happy happy :-)

There won´t be much scrapping for the next days, I´m busy doing Christmas stuff and my next project will be the Christmas card !

My Christmas Calendar

I´ve been busy making my daughters Christmas Calendar. I found it too expensive to buy 24 little presents and usually they end up in the corner after 5 minutes of playing. Also here in Iceland, children get 13 little presents from the Santa Clause in a shoe placed in the window seat from Desember 11 until December 24 so I thought that was enough.

I wanted to do something different so I decided to make 24 little notes and on each note there is a promise of a quality time with the family for example: go to the movies, take a walk in town and go to a coffie house, stay at home and make Christmas crafts, rent a Christmas movie, decorate the house, sleep with grandparents and so on. Just ordinary things made special during this special time :-)

Here is the calendar, just a white plate with 24 little frames, frames I had, some I painted and some not and I also bought some new frames.

Here is a close up, under each frame there is a little note tied to a nail.

I used Mindy Terasawa´s Jolly lil Friends kit and stickers, just perfect for this project.

And here is Matthildur opening the first note this morning, very happy because her best friend from playschool was coming home with her to play :-)

And here is a picture of me and Matthildur in the main newspaper in Iceland :-)

egan Fisher of Megan designs just RAKed me with her new kit, Starry Night and it´s so gorgeous and dreamy. I made this LO with it and I pretty much recolored every element on the LO. It´s very hard for me to use a kit straight from the "kit", I always have to recolor, change levels and curves etc and blend the elements and papers....but that´s just so much fun :-)
